Build production-grade software with the engineering discipline, team practices and architectural thinking that employers actually hire for
Your journey starts here
Journey overview
This structured pathway combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, preparing you for real-world impact in your field.
What you'll get
Accredited Level 6 qualification aligned to industry standards
Who it's for
This degree suits people who want to build software professionally, not just understand it theoretically. It works well for learners who are already comfortable with basic programming and want to develop the engineering discipline — architecture, testing, teamwork, deployment — that junior roles demand from day one. It is also a strong fit for career changers with prior industry experience in adjacent fields who want a rigorous, practice-led qualification rather than a purely academic one.
Career progression
Most graduates move directly into junior or mid-level engineering roles, with the structured project work and team experience on their CV giving them a clear advantage over candidates from more theoretical backgrounds. From there, natural progressions include senior software engineer, engineering lead, or solutions architect, typically within three to five years of graduation. Those who want to deepen their technical specialism or move into research can continue to a master's in software engineering, computer science, or a domain such as cybersecurity or AI systems.
About this programme
Software engineering is not the same thing as computer science, and this degree makes that distinction count. Where CS programmes ask you to understand computation in the abstract, this programme puts you to work building real systems — with clients, deadlines, codebases that other people have to read, and tests that have to pass. You will move through the full development lifecycle: gathering requirements, designing architecture, writing and reviewing code, automating tests, deploying through CI/CD pipelines, and iterating in agile sprints alongside teammates.
The curriculum runs from foundations in the first year through to full-stack development, software testing, DevOps practices, and system architecture in the final stages. A substantial capstone project lets you own something from brief to delivery, applying professional practices under realistic conditions. Optional modules let you specialise in areas such as embedded systems, UX design, or security depending on where your interests land.
Graduates leave with more than a working knowledge of programming languages — they leave understanding how professional teams build software that scales, stays secure, and holds up under real-world load. That combination of technical depth and engineering discipline is what separates strong candidates in a competitive hiring market.
