Who it's for
This programme suits people already working in a technology or IT-adjacent role who want to move into dedicated cyber security and need a structured, employer-validated route to get there. You do not need prior security experience, but you will need intellectual curiosity, comfort with technical problem-solving and an employer willing to support the four-year commitment. It is especially well suited to those who want the credibility of a degree without stepping away from the workplace.
Career progression
Completing this apprenticeship positions you for senior individual contributor and team lead roles across both the public and private sectors, including critical national infrastructure, financial services and government security functions. From there, pathways open into Head of Security Operations, Chief Information Security Officer or specialist consulting tracks, and the foundation supports further study at postgraduate level if you choose that route.
About this programme
Cyber threats do not wait for you to finish studying. The BSc Cyber Security degree apprenticeship puts you inside a real organisation from day one, earning as you master the technical depth that separates credible professionals from candidates who only know the theory. Over four years you will move from security fundamentals through to advanced threat intelligence, penetration testing, malware analysis and incident command — all benchmarked against the Level 6 Cyber Security Technical Professional standard.
The programme covers both sides of the security equation. You will learn how attackers think — reconnaissance, exploitation, reverse engineering — and how defenders respond, building monitoring systems, running SIEM tools and managing intrusion response under pressure. Risk modelling, security architecture and the legal and regulatory landscape sit alongside that hands-on technical work, giving you a rounded view that employers need in senior hires.
By the time you reach End Point Assessment you will have completed real work-based projects, a portfolio of evidence and a practical exercise that tests your judgement in a controlled environment. The result is a BSc (Hons), Associate membership of the Institute of Information Security Professionals, and a professional track record that speaks for itself in interviews.
